Mostly, we can only guess what clergy in the Church of England think about any number of hot button issues, but last month The Times conducted a fascinating survey of 1,200 serving vicars, rectors and curates. For the first time in about a decade, we can dig into a much more representative sampling of what the clergy think, on everything from same-sex marriage to the establishment of the church, from slave trader statues to the future of church decline in Britain. Does it matter that three-quarters do not believe Britain is a Christian country any more? Do they expect their own parishes to survive the decline of Christianity in the coming decades?
