Some mental health problems can be difficult to notice simply by looking at the appearance of a person experiencing them. Therefore it can be quite easy to overlook a member of our community who may be struggling with their mental health.
In an interview with Adam Brooks on the Sundays with Adam show, therapist Chanelle Dennis spoke about how there are many misconceptions around the topic of loneliness and mental health. She explained that it's helpful not to judge the mental health status of individuals by the their social network or how they present themselves in a public setting. People can experience loneliness even when they are part of a large community.
As someone who has experienced severe loneliness at a young age through the loss of her twin sister, Chanelle also shared practical advice on how people experiencing loneliness can overcome it.
