Music artist Rema gives a whopping amount of money to his church

Afrobeats sensation Rema has donated over £50,000 to his home church in Benin.

The music artist, known for his hit songs ‘Calm Down’ and ‘Dumbei’, pledged the money to Christ Embassy Church in Benin, Edo State, during their Sunday service, thanking them for their support and guidance over the years.

The moment was captured on video and shared on the internet. The platinum selling artist said in the now viral video: “Firstly, I want to give a pledge of N40m (£19,160)  to the infrastructure of the church. I want to pledge N20m (£9580)  to Rhapsody of Realities, and being the fact that I came from the teens church, I also want to pledge N25m (£11,975) to the infrastructure of the teens church.”

The international star also pledged N20m (£9580) to every widow in the church, sharing how the pastors of Christ Embassy supported both he and his mum when his father passed away: “When I was eight year old, when I lost my dad, we felt very lost and abandoned. All that we had was taken from us and we felt very alone and I remember at the time Pastor Joy and Pastor Thomas, the pastors of this church, they opened a shop for my mum and that was what she managed to take care of us.”

The Edo-born musician was in the state for the celebration of Edo@33 and performed the groundbreaking ceremony of the 6,000-capacity Edo Dome and a musical concert at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium at the invitation of the state government.
