M.M.A.P Learning and Premier Gospel join forces for Back To School Hair Drive

Back in February an image of the Stonybrook Intermediate and Middle School Principal cutting a young black boy's hair went viral. According to Local 12 News, Smith said: He was refusing to take his hat off. He said he just got his haircut, he didn't like the way it looked, and he thought his hairline looked a little funny." Smith added that: He thought the student looked fine but understood that the student's lack of confidence in his appearance was keeping him from going to class.

When you feel good and look good you are more prepared to do well, said M.M.A.P Learnings  Danelle Cuffie during an interview with Premier Gospel. M.M.A.P exists to support and empower parents and carers with the resources to support their children to map pathways to success throughout their education.

M.M.A.P is partnering with Premier Gospel this weekend for the Back To School Hair Drive; an initiative aimed at ensuring children feel and look their best as they prepare to return to school this September. Children under the age of 18 can get their hair cut and braided for free.

So why the focus on hair? Hair is a layered topic within our culture... says Cuffie. By nurturing and pouring into the younger generation we help them build a healthy self-perception and boost the confidence of their natural selves, she added.

The event will hold on Sunday August 29th from 1-6pm at Hyland House School, 97 Holcombe Road, London, N17 9AB.

Look good feel good - Though some may deem the statement as slightly shallow, Indiana school principal Jason Smith would probably beg to differ.
