Jennifer Hudson: The Bible has not failed me yet

The 36-year-old, who has spoken previously about the difference faith has made in her life, said she has been reading the scriptures since she was a child.

Asked during an interview with the Guardian which one book changed her life, Hudson replied: "The Bible; I've been reading it since I was little and it hasn't failed me yet."

The Chicago-born performer has previously explained about how her relationship with God helped her come to terms with the murder of her mother, brother and nephew during a brutal gun attack in 2008.

She was quoted by the Guardian in 2014 as saying: "It [my faith] was the ultimate help to me.

"We always said, 'if He brings you to it, He will bring you through it.

"There would be no point in faith if it wasn't tested.

"My mother always told me no matter how negative your life seems to be, you must always look for a positive; that is what I believe a woman of faith should do."

Jennifer Hudson, who used to perform with a church choir, is due to appear later this month as a judge on the popular ITV programme, The Voice UK.

The Oscar award-winning singer and actress Jennifer Hudson has named the Bible as the book which has changed her life, saying it has never let her down.
