A new report from UN Women, based on data from 13 countries since the pandemic, shows that 2 in 3 women reported that they or a woman they know experienced some form of violence. Click here for more statistics from UN Women.
In an interview with Premier Gospel, Nicole Jacobs, the Commissioner for Domestic Abuse said: In the UK, the Office of national statistics survey shows that 2.3 million people have said that they have experienced domestic abuse in the last year. Thats a huge percentage, of people in our society, walking around, really suffering and sometimes hiding, and being really fearful to talk about what they're experiencing.
The hard truth is that some of these victims can be found in our pews on Sundays. Courageous victims who speak up are often met with offers for prayer, as many church leaders are unwilling to get involved in violent domestic matters. According to Tab Church senior pastor, Mike White, developing a preventative policy and medicative policy are possible solutions to the issue.
At Tab we've realized that we need to develop a preventative policy and what I call a medicative policy. When it comes to relationships, from the very get go when we're conducting premarital counseling we try and bring these things up; find out about people's histories, not just their sexual history, but also their anger history, their emotional, deviant history. I think this is something that a lot of churches are skimming over because we get so excited about marriage that we just want to see people push through into it, he said.
