Donald Lawrence, Beverley Knight and others unite to #SAVELCGC

The UK gospel community hasnt been immune to the financial downturn due to the pandemic. With many arts organisations and churches folding up, The London Community Gospel Choir (LCGC) is determined to remain afloat. Fondly referred to as the UKs treasure, the group has been around for almost 40 years and hope to continue contributing to the rich heritage of gospel music in the UK for the foreseeable future.

On Saturday 22 May an array of renowned artists including Donald Lawrence, Beverley Knight, Noel Robinson, and others will join forces for a virtual concert aimed at raising funds for LCGC.

In an interview with Premier Gospel, LCGC founder Bazil Meade said: LCGC is based in Waltham Forest we have our own building, recording studio and attached to that are bills that need to be paid. We cant pay these bills as we have depleted the resources we had, and we have not been successful with our grant applications so we are reaching out to the communityIt would be a shame if we went under We are hoping the community would come together and support our initiative

Dubbed by the British media as the nations favourite choir, LCGC have historically been a staple at high profile UK events. Past performances include the International FA Cup Final at Wembley Stadium, Glastonbury and Live 8.

Sadly, whilst other industries seem to be bouncing back, the future of these two sectors still looks very grim.
