Born in Nigeria and currently out in Texas, Asuman has been training in athletics from an early age, winning her first gold medal in 2015 at the tender age of 18 at the African Games for 100m hurdles. Fast forward to 2022 Tobi claimed gods at this years Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
Tobi she shared how church was an important part of her upbringing and how shes always held on to God: I come from a spiritually inclined family and everyday it was school, church church church churchI had to learn to grow as a person in faith and let me tell you, its so hard when youre not doing well but a lot of people can testify to that even when Im not doing well I post pictures and say yeah, in His timing Hes going to do itits been God from the beginning
Watch here:
The athlete shared a scripture that helped get her through the vigorous training sessions: great is thy faithfulness your mercies are new every morning (Lam 3:23), I would repeat that all day every day, I could post that every day of the year
Being in sport is no easy path, with tough training sessions and a lot of competition athletes must ensure they remain focused. The champion revealed the secret to her success, saying that being an introvert has helped her: Im a very disciplined person, if I say Im not going to drink water for the next three years I wont. Im an introvert, I was raised to be indoors and so that was my life, when I came to the US it was just me living in my dorm. Being here Ive seen a lot of people, athletes going way out of line, but as an athlete theres level of discipline to attain a certain spot in the career board, theyll have a track meet and then go partying and Im like what is that? Being dedicated and being an introvert kept me grounded and focused.
Although the Commonwealth Games are over Tobi is set to compete in future competition, soon solidifying her place as one of the 100m greats.
