The highly anticipated Little Mermaid live action film is set to be released in May 2023 but its not been without controversy. Many have criticised the filmmakers for not casting a Caucasian person to play Ariel, instead opting for a Black girl. At the centre of the controversy on who is to play Ariel is singer, song writer and actress Halle Bailey, who landed the role a few years ago. Fans of Halle have supported her in accepting the role to play Ariel and she herself has expressed her excitement at playing the Disney princess. Reaction videos of little Black girls have made their way around the internet showing them excited to see the positive Black representation. Halle seems to have handled the critics well, expressing her excitementat playing Ariel and remaining graceful throughout the process. One thing that may have gotten her through thus far is strong faith in God. In an interview withThe Cut Halle said that her and her older sister Chloe love God, talking about their love for gospel music in other interviews and how much they love gospel music. They attribute all their talents back to God, saying: Hes there with us through everything. Hes our best friend. God gave us this gift, but I dont think its us really doing it. Because sometimes well look up and its there in front of our eyes. I really believe its a greater power doing it for us. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9AfBlczOiMg
Hollywood is no easy place to be and huge stars often share how it's God that's gotten them through the difficult times, is responsible for their success and they give Him all the glory. With people already criticising her and the film set to be released one thing we know is that Gods got her. Written by Premier GospelView this post on Instagram
